On a spring day in 1945 Mira Unreich is freed from a concentration camp in Germany. Against all odds she finds herself alive. In the decades that follow, Mira never explains the mystery underpinning her survival. Seventy years later when Mira is diagnosed with cancer, her daughter Rachelle, an acclaimed journalist, resolves to find out. A Brilliant Life is an unforgettable memoir about how acts of kindness, however small, can make the difference between dying and living, between hatred and love, and between choosing a life weighed down by sorrow or a life lived in wonder. It also captures the powerful connection between a mother and a daughter, offering a unique window into the life of a child of a survivor.
