About the Author:

Maureen Lee was a master of the saga—a storyteller who brought to life the grit, grace, and gorgeous chaos of everyday women, especially those living through the highs and lows of wartime Liverpool. Born in Bootle in 1936, Maureen knew her settings inside and out, and her stories feel like walking the streets of a familiar neighbourhood filled with secrets, strength, and soul.

With beloved novels like The Leaving of Liverpool, Dancing in the Dark, and The Seven Streets of Liverpool, Maureen wrote about real women—mothers, sisters, daughters, dreamers—facing heartbreak and hope with quiet courage and fierce loyalty. Her books are full of rich period detail, emotional twists, and that special kind of storytelling that wraps around you like a knitted shawl on a rainy day.

Before she became a bestselling novelist, Maureen wrote short stories and even dabbled in acting. But it was her novels—layered, lovely, and full of life—that won the hearts of readers around the world.

If you love characters who feel like old friends, and stories that make you laugh, cry, and stay up way too late turning pages, Maureen Lee is the author to treasure.
