An exciting, joyful celebration of carnival from Donette Williams-Harry. Today is Kayla's favourite day of the year: carnival! Smoky spice fills the air, steel pans TING, TING, TING and Caribbean music is pumping. Kayla cannot wait to show off her BIG ENERGY! But when her costume ends up in shreds, it looks like it's time for Kayla to face the music and ask for help. Can her community rally to save the day? Or will carnival end up in tatters? This energetic picture book is a beautiful take on bravery and the power of community. Amlie-Anne Calmo's vibrant illustrations are a visual feast of culture, bringing the sounds, sights and smells of carnival flooding off the page. Inspired by the author's own personal experiences of attending Notting Hill Carnival, and featuring an informative end matter that explores carnivals around the world, this is the perfect book for anyone who is looking to dig deeper into a rich tradition. Just like To Carnival! by Baptiste Paul and Jana Glatt, A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals by Claire Grace and Christopher Corr and C is for Carnival by Yolanda T Marshall and Daria Lavrova, Carnival Queen is the perfect book to celebrate with.
