A collection of ten witty, tightly written and upbeat short stories about people making new beginnings after significant losses (the death of their partners, home invasions, etc) set in the upmarket northern suburbs of Johannesburg, like Parkview. Filled with memorable characters and incidents. Barbara Ludman writes about loss and moving on with an alluring wit and ease. This is the best kind of fiction: profound philosophy rendered with a sure, light touch. -Mark Gevisser Barbara Ludman's droll, sparkling dialogue makes this collection sing. Moving, often hilarious stories about finding new connections, jobs and joy after the loss of a partner. -Jo-Ann Bekker, author of Asleep, Awake, Asleep Ludman's characters are entertainingly bold, and her fresh stories about life's vagaries are engrossing page-turners. As each story hits its intriguing climax, you're genuinely sorry to say goodbye. A tasty collection. -Anne Schlebusch, author of Bloomer
